In our community, nursing home abuse has become a day-to-day thing. Some of the long-term facilities that is, about thirty percent of them have been cited for foul play and negligence of patients. This is why it is important to take legal action if you have been a victim of this. Even if the reputation of the nursing home is going to be ruined, it will be fair to you and any other person that is going to be admitted in the nursing home.

When you express your frustrations and grievances, you are helping the community to know what goes on in the particular institution. After a legal action is taken against the said institution, cases of ill-treated patients in the facility go down. These disagreements usually result to them loosing a lot of money and therefore, are forced to make their employees to be more careful with the patients.

In cases of permanent facilities, the rights of the patients may be neglected in the following ways. Emotional abuse whereby you hurt the patient verbally, sexual abuse where you force the patient to engage in sexual activities and Physical abuse where the patient is handled in a painful manner or hit. You can also count it as negligence when the needs of the patients are not met.

It can be very taxing to get the ideal nursing home for your loved one. Even when you get an institution that is highly recommended, there are still chances of abuse just in case there is a change in the personnel or the character of the patient. So when you do decide to take your loved one to one of these institutions, please look at the following things so as to know if they have been abused.

The common and most obvious signs are injuries or bruises such as cuts and broken limbs. The patient may also be dehydrated and malnutrition resulting from bad diet or ignorance. You should be keen and find out if the institution provides healthy hygienic environment. Foul smell and other risks are considered as negligence.

If your family member or any other dear one suffers from dementia then they are prone to ill treatment. Dementia victims are often frantic and perplexed, which angers some of the wardens and leads to forceful handling. The most horrible thing is that the victim never talks about what has been done to them. However it does not mean that they should be disregarded.

If you think your relative is being ill treated in your absence, it is necessary for you to appear unscheduled to the facility at different hours of the day. Have a chat with the people in charge so as to oversee the safety of your loved one. If they look like they would not do anything about it, it is best to think about a transfer or a legal row.

No elderly person should find themselves in a nursing home abuse situation because of careless employees. Even when the patients are frustrating sometimes, they should be treated kindly. Keep an eye on your loved ones, if they are in these institutions so as not to be victims to deliberate abuse.
